The Irish Hospice Foundation 'The Gathering-Reflections on Ireland'

The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) has launched a new book called 'The Gathering – Reflections on Ireland'  featuring  stories from Gathering events and an inspiring collection of reflections on Ireland from influential individuals such as the late Seamus Heaney, Colum McCann, Bono, Moya Doherty, Brian O’Driscoll, Marian Finucane and Niall O’ Dowd.

Edited by journalist Miriam Donohoe, the 256 page full colour, hardback book celebrates a year in the life of a nation and her people – at home and abroad.  It also examines what it means to be Irish through a series of thoughtful and thought provoking reflections.  It contains 31 reflections and 76 Gathering events captured through narrative or photographs.

Other contributors include Tom Arnold, Pauline Bewick, Dr Paddy Boland, John Geoghegan, Loretta Brennan Glucksman, Fergal Keane, Dr Declan Kiberd, Pearse and Deirdre Lyons, Bridget Megarry, Tim O’Connor, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh, Simone Rocha, Pat Shortt, Katie Taylor, Orla Tinsley and Dr Pat Wallace.

The IHF hopes to raise over €250,000 from the sale of the book which will be used to support its work particularly its activities in hospitals where nearly one in two people die in Ireland each year.  Funds will be invested in the pioneering Design & Dignity project which aims to improve the physical infrastructure of hospitals.

'The Gathering – Reflections on Ireland' will retail at €20 and is available in all good bookshops countrywide as well as from the IHF website at http://hospicefoundation.ie/shop/books/
