Giants Journey - Limerick City bus services
News Release
Take Bus Éireann services to see the Royal de Luxe ‘Giant’s Journey’ in Limerick City
The Giant’s Journey street theatre spectacle will make its way through the heart of Limerick city from Friday to Sunday next, and Bus Éireann can take you there on our wide selection of city and Expressway services.
Organisers Royal de Luxe Limerick have advised travel to the event on public transport services, given the extent of street closures and large crowds expected to attend.
For those travelling from outside Limerick, there are regular Expressway services from Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Clare, Galway and Dublin. See www.buseireannexpressway.com for more details.
We would like to advise passengers of alterations to Limerick city services to accommodate the City of Culture headline event. Because of nature of the street festival, and the significant amount of street and road closures, services that operate across the city will be spilt and these are outlined below, and on the timetable update section of the Bus Éireann website. The company have worked closely with An Garda Síochána and Limerick City Council in relation to these temporary changes.
Route sections that will be affected for the duration of the event are 301 Westbury, 301 Hyde Road/Fr Russell Road/Raheen 302 Caherdavin, 303 O’Malley Park, 303 Moyross (will be amalgamated with route 306 Ballynanty from Friday to Sunday next), route 304 UL, route 304 Ballycummin, Route 305 Lynnwood, Route 305 O’Malley Park, Route 306 Ballynanty, and Route 306 Edward Street.
All stage carriage services will depart from Limerick bus station only for the duration of the event and there will be disruption to the 313 Limerick/Ardnacrusha route, which will operate via Corbally for the event’s duration.
All Expressway services will operate as scheduled in and out of Limerick City. For more information on these changes to our timetable see http://www.buseireann.ie/news_timetable.php?id=1576&month=Aug
Bus Éireann Southwest Regional Manager Miriam Flynn said that the Giant’s Journey three day street festival was a great way to sample a flavour of the Limerick City of Culture 2014.
“This is a headline event, which has been seen by more than 18 million spectators across the world, and a lot of work and planning has been dedicated to it. The organisers have advised people to plan their journey in advance of attending.
Bus Éireann are operating all city and Expressway services and these are a great option for people to travel on, during the three days of the event.”
