Bus Éireann Statement on the Comptroller & Auditor General Report on School Transport Provision

Bus Éireann was made aware today of the publication of the Comptroller & Auditor General Report on School Transport, and has not yet received an official copy of this.

We need time to consider its content ahead of commenting; however, we welcome the finding that the company is in compliance with public procurement guidelines in relation to the subcontracting of school transport. Over 90% of routes are sub-contracted.

In the three years since the examination commenced some of its recommendations have already been implemented, including a new service level agreement between Bus Éireann and the Department of Education & Skills with associated key performance indicators and regular reports.

We continue to strengthen and build on our working relationship with the department, and are proud to carry some 116,000 school children daily on over 6000 routes to over 3,000 schools across Ireland, on over 4,500 vehicles.
