Bus Éireann welcome winning bid for Waterford City services contract

The decision of the National Transport Authority (NTA) to select Bus Éireann as the successful bidders for a new five year contract for the provision of public bus services for Waterford City is a very proud achievement for our staff and the company. These services were part of 10% of routes publicly tendered, and as  the incumbent provider of existing services, we are delighted to have been granted preferred bidder status following a competitive process between five bidders, that included international companies.

This company has had a very challenging year in terms of undertaking essential structural and competitive reform and we regard this decision today as a vote of confidence in the company, its workforce, and our dedication to deliver high standards of service to all of our customers, in line with our obligations under contract to the NTA.

Acting Chief Executive Ray Hernan said the announcement was “an important win that endorsed the company.

Bus Éireann celebrates 30 years of service to Waterford this year, and it is great for us to be able to mark this occasion by winning a new contract to continue to provide and enhance Waterford City bus services. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who worked on this successful bid, and in particular to all staff in Waterford, who provide these services.

We look forward to delivering the service improvements which follow from this decision including the introduction of 17 new eco-friendly vehicles into the fleet, and to working with the National Transport Authority to ensure that we grow passenger journeys and exceed customer expectations,” he said.

Passengers on Waterford City services  will also benefit from new discounted fares of up to 30% using Leap card, under new fares which apply from December 1 next. See www.buseireann.ie for more details.
