Bus Eireann School Bus Services Update 7th Jan 2010

The majority of schools served by Bus Eireann School Bus Services have decided to close for today and tomorrow (January 8th 2010).

In instances where schools have decided to open today Bus Eireann will attempt to provide a school bus service to them, but only if it is safe to do so. Many school bus services, particularly in rural areas, operate on secondary and minor roads to facilitate pupils and their families. Given recent weather conditions many of these roads are not safe to operate on. To ensure that road conditions are properly assessed, decisions to operate school bus services on specific routes are being taken this morning by local drivers in consultation with local Bus Eireann management.

Having considered road conditions on particular routes there are a number of school bus services that will not be able to operate this morning for safety reasons.

These include:

In Cork, services from the Ardgroom/Urhan areas will not operate into Castletownbere. Services from the Rusheen area will not operate into Coachford PP.

In Clonmel, many services will not operate to Clonmel Post Primary Centre because of bad road conditions.

No school bus services operating in Wexford, Wicklow, Kildare, Drogheda, Cavan and we are not expecting to operate services in Meath.

In Limerick, school bus services will operate on main roads only.

In Dundalk, post primary services will operate from Killsaran, Ravensdale, Blackrock, Carlingford, Duffys Cross and Louth village.

In Monaghan, services to primary schools will be to those on main roads only. Service to Corracrin NS is running.

Bus Eireann apologises for any inconvenience caused, but safety must be our main priority.
