Revised services to St. Vincent’s Hospital from Wexford on Expressway Route 2 commencing Sunday the 30th of September

The revised Route 2, which will start from 30 September 2012, will also have the shortest journey time between Wexford and Dublin city (Custom House Quay) of just 2 hours 20 minutes.

Even shorter journey times will be available on the X2 service, which will take just 2 hours from Wexford to Dublin city and 2 hours 20 minutes to Dublin Airport. The X2 will operate daily from Wexford at 6am and from Dublin Airport at 5pm.

There will also be faster journey times from Enniscorthy, Gorey and Arklow to Dublin. Enniscorthy to Dublin will take 2 hours, Gorey-Dublin will take 1 hour 30 minutes, and Arklow-Dublin will take 1 hour 15 minutes.

Route 2 will operate 16 times a day in each direction with services starting from Wexford at 2am and departing Dublin Airport from 6am.

From Wexford, the service will operate to Olygate, Enniscorthy, Ferns, Camolin, Gorey, Arklow, Kilmacanogue, St Colmcille’s Hospital, Belfield, St Stephen’s Green, Custom House Quay and Dublin Aiport.

From Dublin Airport, the service will operate to Busaras, St Stephen’s Green, Belfield, St Colmcille’s Hospital, Kilmacanogue, Arklow, Gorey, Camolin, Ferns, Enniscorthy, Olygate, and Wexford.

Due to the lack of bus priority on Nutly Lane and in order to deliver reliable and shorter journey times for our customers on Route 2 travelling to and from Dublin city centre and Dublin Airport, which is the vast majority of the customers using the route, most Route 2 services will not operate via Ballsbridge or Nutly Lane.

Route 2 will serve St Vincent’s Hospital three times a day in each direction. From Monday to Saturday, it will serve St Vincent’s Hospital on the 7am, 9am and 10am service from Wexford. From Dublin Airport it will serve St. Vincent’s Hospital on the 14:00, 15:00 and 18:00 service. On Sundays, it will serve St Vincent’s Hospital on the 10:00 service from Wexford, and on the 14:00 and 18:00 service from Dublin Airport.

Customers travelling to St Vincent’s Hospital can also use all Route 2 services to travel to St Colmcille’s Hospital in Loughlinstown where they can connect with Dublin Bus 84 service to Blackrock or can use all Route 2 services to travel to Belfield and connect with Dublin Bus service 47 which serves the stop at Nutley Lane outside St Vincent’s Hospital.

Route 2 services will depart from Wexford (Monday to Sunday) at 2am; 4am; 5am (summer only) 6am (limited stop X2 service); 8am; 9am; 10am; 11am; 12am; 1pm; 2pm; 3pm; 5pm; 6.30pm, and 8.30pm.

Route 2 services will depart from Dublin Airport (Monday to Sunday) at 6am; 8am; 9am; 10am; 11am; 12am; 1pm; 2pm; 3pm: 4pm; 5pm (limited stop X2); 6pm; 7pm; 9pm; 10pm; 12pm.

These changes to Route 2 will provide our customers with a faster, more direct service between Wexford, Dublin city and Dublin Airport. With high quality coaches with free Wi-Fi, Expressway Route 2 enables customers to travel in comfort and speed without having to worry about toll charges, fuel costs or parking fees,” said Joe Kenny, Regional Manager, East, Bus Éireann.

Revisions to Route 2 have been approved by the National Transport Authority (NTA).

Services from Rosslare

Due to low customer numbers using our commercial Expressway Route 2 service in Rosslare, it will no longer serve Rosslare from 30 September 2012. Our Expressway services are purely commercial services that receive no State funding and, as such, must be commercially viable. Unfortunately, it was no longer commercially viable to serve Rosslare on Route 2 due to the low number of customers there.

Customers wishing to travel from Rosslare to Dublin can still use our Route 40 service to connect with Route 2 in Wexford. Route 40 operates from Rosslare Europort to Wexford five times a day in each direction. The journey time between Rosslare Europort and Wexford is 25 minutes.

Route 40 also operates from Rosslare to Waterford, Cork and Tralee, and can be used to connect into our inter-city network of services to a wide range of our destinations across the country.

Bus Éireann also operates Route 370 from Rosslare to Waterford/Waterford IT and Waterford Regional Hospital via Wellingtonbridge. The service operates twice a day in each direction to/from Rosslare.

Bus Éireann apologies for any inconvenience caused to customers by this change.
