Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company, is sponsoring new jackets for Wicklow and District Lions Club for 2022. Members of the club will receive their jackets this November, part of an ongoing partnership between Bus Éireann and the Wicklow and District Lions Club.

Wicklow and District Lions Club is a non-profit organisation where members donate their time to community causes. In recent months, the club has run a ‘peace poster’ competition in local schools and conducted a Diabetes Awareness Day campaign.

‘’Bus Éireann is happy to sponsor new jackets for the Wicklow and District Lions Club, whose members do great voluntary work in their local communities’’ said Adrian O’Loughlin, Bus Éireann Senior Operations Manager, East. ‘’In addition to the bus services we provide in County Wicklow, which include the PSO routes 132 and 133 and the Expressway route 2 service, Bus Éireann is committed to partnering with local organisations such as the Wicklow and District Lions Club and giving back to the communities which we are proud to serve.’’

Bus Éireann currently has 90 bus stops in County Wicklow, servicing towns and villages across the county. Bus Éireann also carries 3,700 Wicklow students on school transport each school day.

Among the recipients of the new jackets, which will be distributed to members throughout November, is Joe Goode. Joe is a committed local volunteer who recently turned 90 years old. A former hotelier and previously in the merchant navy, Joe is a chef, gardener and is also recognised as one of Wicklow’s most important bee keepers, a passion he has pursued over many years.

‘’We are delighted that Bus Éireann are the sponsors of our new jackets for 2022,’’ said Sean Olohan, President of Wicklow and District Lions Club. ‘’Just as members of our club go above and beyond to support charitable activities in our local communities, Bus Éireann also plays an important role in connecting our towns and villages across County Wicklow. From our recent Diabetes Awareness Day and school ‘peace poster’ competition to our quiz nights in support of Wicklow RNLI and Wicklow Tidy Towns, we hope members of the public keep an eye out for our new jackets and continue to support our local fundraisers, especially our upcoming Christmas Food Appeal.’’
