Bus Éireann Mayo/Galway corridor service improvements to take effect on July 1

New streamlined Route 52, boost in services on Routes 420, 422 and 456 & new Route 421

Bus Éireann, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (NTA) are pleased to announce the introduction of an enhanced bus service for our customers in Co. Galway & Mayo along the Ballina – Castlebar – Westport – Galway  Corridor. The towns of Westport, Castlebar, Cong, Headford and Ballinrobe will see major benefits. This follows a NTA review of services in Co. Mayo, and takes account of changes to other services operated along this corridor.

The enhanced services will be introduced on Sunday, July 1, 2018.

How are my bus services changing?

A revised Expressway Route 52 Ballina-Castlebar-Galway service will take effect, and customers can avail of a new, simplified routing between the two destinations, with additional departures daily. For more information on the new timetable see www.expressway.ie

Route 456: Ballina – Westport - Galway

This routewill be divided into three separate routes, which will individually focus on certain sections of the corridor to provide an enhanced service offering that includes higher frequency, more extensive operating hours, and better connectivity for customers along the whole corridor.

Route 420: Castlebar – Pontoon – Ballina

This route will provide three return services daily via Pontoon linking Castlebar to Ballina. Services will operate daily, including weekends & Public Holidays. Expressway Route 52 also provides six daily return services between Castlebar & Ballina.

Route 422: Castlebar – Cong – Headford

This route will provide three return services daily via Cong linking Castlebar to Headford, where customers can interchange onto Route 456, or Expressway Route 52, to complete their journey to Galway. Services will operate daily including weekends & Public Holidays.

Route 456: Castlebar – Westport – Ballinrobe – Kilmaine – Headford - Galway

This route will provide five return services daily linking Castlebar to Galway via Kilmaine & Headford. Services will operate daily, including weekends & Public Holidays. Expressway Route 52 also provides six daily return services between Castlebar & Ballina.

Route 421 - a new service addition

Bus Éireann in conjunction with the National Transport Authority are pleased to announce the introduction of Route 421 for our customers serving Swinford - Kiltimagh - Knock - Claremorris. The main service highlights are:

  • A daily service that will link these four towns
  • Connections to the wider public transport network available at hubs in both Swinford & Claremorris
