CIÉ Protected Disclosures - Policy & Procedure
In compliance with Section 21(1) of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 (being that section as it stood before the commencement of section 28 of the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022), Bus Éireann, as part of the CIE Group of companies, has established and must publish internal procedures to allow any employee of the company make a protected disclosure under the Act.
The Protected Disclosures Act 2014 provides for a framework of statutory protections for whistleblowers in Ireland. The Act has been substantially overhauled by the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022, which was signed into law in July 2022. The new legislation came into operation on 1 January 2023.

PROTECTED DISCLOSURES ANNUAL REPORT OF BUS ÉIREANN FOR 2023
In Accordance with the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022
Under this Act, public bodies are required to prepare and publish an annual report not later than 31 March 2024 in relation to the immediately preceding year, setting out the number of protected disclosures received in the preceding year and the action taken (if any). This report must not result in persons making disclosures being identifiable.
This is the annual report of Bus Éireann. It covers the period 1st January 2022 to 31st December 2023.
In compliance with this legal obligation, Bus Éireann confirms that it received no protected disclosures in 2023, but a protected disclosure received previously was closed out during the year after follow-up procedures were observed.
