Bus Éireann reports a return to pre-Covid passenger levels

Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company, has announced a strong return to pre-Covid passenger levels, achieving 89.5 million passenger journeys for the full year in 2022, despite some pandemic impact in the first two months of the year. In 2021, passenger journeys were 57.5 million.

Christmas coach travel to Ireland returns for first time since 2019

Irish people travelling home from the UK for Christmas can avoid airport queues, as well as lower their carbon footprint and save money, by travelling on the Expressway Eurolines route from London and Birmingham to Dublin city centre. Expressway Eurolines is operated by Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company.

Smart Ticketing trial for almost 400 pupils using school transport services in Kells, Co. Meath

School Transport is a significant operation managed by Bus Éireann on behalf of the Department of Education transporting over 148,000 students each school day. The Department of Education in conjunction with Bus Éireann has recently launched a smart ticketing initiative to improve customer experience for pupils and parents using Bus Éireann school transport services. The trial will run until the end of December.

Bus Éireann announces new and improved services in County Cavan

Passengers travelling from Cavan to Athlone are benefitting from significantly enhanced services and timetables on Route 466 operated by Bus Éireann on behalf of the National Transport Authority. The enhanced Route 466 now includes six daily services between Cavan and Athlone including peak time services for commuters. The new services operate seven days a week and includes improved options for connecting with Irish Rail services at Longford and Athlone.

72% of 19-23 year olds say they use public transport more now than three years ago

72 per cent of young adults say that they are using public transport more now than three years ago, according to an Expressway survey conducted among 19-23 year-olds outside of Dublin. This is a significant increase in the number of young people choosing public transport over private cars. Expressway is Bus Éireann’s commercial intercity service, the largest in the country with 14 national routes.

Bus Éireann launches “Fill-A-Bus” for Mid West Simon Christmas Appeal in Limerick

Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company is partnering with Mid West Simon in appealing for contributions for the vulnerable, homeless and those at risk of homelessness in Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary. On Thursday, 8 December Bus Éireann will reserve a bus in Colbert bus station, Parnell Street from 11am to 2pm hoping to fill it from top to bottom with donations from the public.

Bus Éireann, supported by the National Transport Authority (NTA), are launching their ‘Keep it Clear’ campaign today, reminding motorists to think of those people who are impacted most by drivers blocking bus stops and to raise awareness of the implications, including fines for illegal parking.

Bus Éireann announces improved services and times in County Tipperary

Passengers travelling from Cashel to Limerick are benefitting from significantly enhanced services and timetables on Route 332 operated by Bus Éireann on behalf of the National Transport Authority. The enhanced Route 332 now links Cashel with Limerick City for the first time while other improvements include a trebling of services, additional stops in Limerick City as well as an evening service departing Limerick at 20.00pm. Tipperary students are also benefitting from a direct service from Cashel to the University of Limerick.

Passengers travelling from Mitchelstown to Limerick are benefitting from significantly enhanced services and timetables on Route 328 operated by Bus Éireann on behalf of the National Transport Authority. The enhanced Route 328 now includes improved options for connecting with Irish Rail services as well as local Limerick services. Daily services between Mitchelstown and Limerick have tripled, including peak time services for commuters.

Over 1,500 children to take part in Aldi Community Games National finals this weekend

Over 1,500 children along with their families and supporters from all over Ireland will travel to the UL Arena in University of Limerick this Saturday to take part in the Aldi Community Games finals for swimming and outdoor team sports. The National finals for swimming and outdoor team sports events commence at 9am for team sports and 12 noon for the swimmers. Tickets are now available at www.communitygames.ie.

Over 1,000 children to take part in Aldi Community Games National Arts and Culture Finals

Over 1,000 talented children along with their families and supporters from all over Ireland will travel to the VISUAL Arts Theatre in Carlow this weekend to take part in the second of the National Aldi Community Games finals. Children aged between six and sixteen from all over Ireland will be taking part in the National Arts and Culture Finals in a host of different events including Art, Handwriting, Singing, Dancing, Chess, Model Making and more. The events will commence from 9am and go straight through until 6pm on both days.

2,000 children to take part in Aldi Community Games National Athletics Track and Field Finals

2,000 children from all over Ireland will travel to SETU Carlow Sports Complex this weekend to take part in the first of the National Aldi Community Games events. Children aged between six and sixteen will be competing in the National Athletics Track and Field Finals with 28 different track events and 14 field events starting from 9am until 7pm. Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company is very proud to be the National Travel Partner of Community Games and will have employees on site to meet and greet athletes, family and friends this Saturday, 13 of August at SETU Carlow Sports Complex.

One year since the introduction of Ireland’s first hydrogen buses

From today, Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company, is encouraging customers in Dublin and Letterkenny to return their plastic bottles and aluminium drinks cans to reverse vending machines in its bus stations. Between the two stations there is an expected footfall of over 3m passengers a year that will be able to avail of the reverse vending machines.

Bus Éireann, operating on behalf of Transport for Ireland has partnered with TFI Local Link Kerry and Fáilte Ireland to launch a new Travel Around Kerry brochure. This brochure provides information about Bus Éireann and TFI Local Link services connecting Kerry’s towns and villages. In addition, the brochure highlights how all passengers including tourists can benefit from the recent 20% fare reduction on PSO bus services in County Kerry and the 50% reduction available for those with a TFI Student or Young Adult Leap Card, introduced by the National Transport Authority.

Galway West TD and Minister of State at the Department of Transport Hildegard Naughton today marked the first year since the introduction of hybrid double-deck buses to Bus Éireann’s Galway fleet. The new buses were purchased by the National Transport Authority and by this week will have delivered 200,000 kilometres of emission-free public transport in the city, saving almost 230 tonnes of carbon tailpipe emissions.

Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company, is organising a Fill-A-Bus appeal to aid those displaced by the war in Ukraine at the bus stop outside of Douglas Court Shopping Centre this Saturday, 5 March from 10am to 3pm. Bus Éireann drivers in Cork have been active in humanitarian causes for many years, with volunteer drivers delivering aid to orphanages in Belarus since 2015.

Stories of Hope and Recovery go on tour at Drogheda and Dundalk Bus Stations

Expressway, Ireland’s premium inter-regional coach service has partnered up with Grow Mental Health to raise awareness of mental health challenges. Customers will see a photo exhibition with Stories of Recovery and Hope in Drogheda and Dundalk bus stations for two weeks. The display has toured nationwide and this partnership initiative is to promote positive mental health and raise vital funds for Grow Mental Health, the non-profit group.

Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company, is launching new Travel Around Dundalk and Travel Around Drogheda brochures informing the public of Bus Éireann services in Dundalk, Drogheda and surrounding towns and villages across the County and which connect Louth to Counties Dublin, Cavan, Monaghan, Meath and Tyrone. They are also highlighting that Louth passengers can get 30% discounts on single fares with a TFI Leap Card when travelling on Bus Éireann PSO services.
