Leap Single tickets are available to purchase on all Bus Éireann services.

Selected Leap 24hr, 7 Day and monthly products are available for travel on city services in Cork, Galway, Limerick & Waterford and on Commuter services in the Greater Dublin Area. Visit our Leap page for more information.

Young Adults/Students

Bus Éireann offers concession tickets at student rates to:

young adults and students aged 19-25 years who are in possession of a valid Young Adult Leap Card
students aged 16-18 years and students aged 26 years and above in full-time third level education, including further education and training, who are in possession of a valid Student Leap Card. See leapcard.ie for full details on Student Leap Card eligibility.
Note: Based on age and student status, persons aged 16-18 years may qualify for both the Child Leap card (16-18) and the Student Leap Card. For travel on Bus Éireann public services, the recommended card is the Child Leap Card (16-18) as it offers cheaper fares. For travel on Expressway services, the recommended card is the Student Leap Card as it allows the holder to avail of the half-price Student online discounted fares. It is possible to apply for both cards at leapcard.ie.
students who are in possession of or a current Translink yLink Card

Please note that USIT and college ID cards are no longer accepted as valid Student ID for the purchase of concession tickets at student rates.

Children

Children aged under 5 years

Children under the age of five travel free of charge on Bus Éireann’s public PSO services (City, Commuter, and Stage Carriage services) when they are accompanied by a person or persons aged 16 years or over with responsibility for their welfare. There is no requirement for children aged under 5 years to hold a Leap card.
One child under the age of five may travel free of charge on Bus Éireann’s Expressway services when they are accompanied by a person or persons aged 16 years or over with responsibility for their welfare. Additional children under the age of five will be charged the standard child fare.

Children aged 5-8 years

From September 2025, children aged 5-8 years may travel for free on all Bus Éireann public PSO services (City, Commuter, and Stage Carriage services) if they are in possession of the new TFI Child Leap card (5-8).

If a child aged 5-8 years is not in possession of the new Child Leap card (5-8), then they must pay the correct child cash fare. If a child aged 5-8 years already holds a Child Leap card (5-15), a parent or guardian must apply for the new Child Leap card (5-8) at leapcard.ie to enable the child travel for free. A Child Leap card (5-15) may continue to be used for travel but this will incur the usual child Leap fare. To avail of free travel across TFI services children aged 5-8 years must hold a valid Child Leap Card 5-8.

The new Child Leap card (5-8) is not valid for free travel on Expressway services. Children aged 5-8 years may continue to use a Child Leap Card (5-15) to pay for tickets at child rates on Expressway services.

Children aged 9-18 years

If in possession of a Child Leap Card (5-15), children aged 9-15 years are entitled to reduced Leap fares at Child rates.

Children aged 16-18 years who are in possession of a Child Leap card (16-18) are entitled to half-price Child Leap Single fares on Bus Éireann public services and, in addition, to selected Leap products at Child rates.
