TY student from Co Sligo announced as regional winner of Bus Éireann’s ‘Go Places’ competition

Student from Ursuline College scoops prize for the West

The West of Ireland’s regional winner of the Bus Eireann’s ‘Go Places’ competition has been announced. Hollie Hannon, a Transition Year student who attends the Ursuline College in Sligo, entertained the judges with her creative essay.

Hollie submitted a colourful essay which detailed her personal journey to school over the years – from when she first started school.

Hollie was one of three lucky regional winners who won an iPad each while the overall winner, Cliona Riordan from Coláiste Choilm in Ballincollig, Co Cork was the Southern and overall national winner and received a day trip to Tayto Park for her TY class. Hollie travelled to the Bus Éireann office in Sligo to receive her iPad from Fiona Scanlon Bus Éireann.

Stephen Kent, CEO of Bus Éireann said, “Hollie’s submission was not only a recollecting tale of her journey to school, but it was also very emotive. Hollie told a vivid tale of her morning commute, from her elder sister worrying about her exams to the baby lambs in spring and then left us with the wise words “our journeys will always be what we make of them”

Bus Éireann is proud to have operated the School Transport Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills for over 50 years. Every day in Sligo alone it transports over 2,200 pupils to and from school on 80 buses on 123 school routes under the scheme.
