TY student from Co Cork announced as both South winner and overall National winner of Bus Éireann’s

Student from Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig scoops prize for the South

The Southern and overall National winner of Bus Éireann’s ‘Go Places’ competition has been announced. Cliona Riordan, a Transition Year student who attends Coláiste Choilm in Ballincollig, won the hearts and minds of the judges with her creative video

As part of the competition, TY students were invited to submit projects – in words, photographs, or videos – about their journey to school. As the operator of the School Transport Scheme, Bus Éireann transports more than 119,000 students on a daily basis to and from over 3000 schools nationwide

Cliona submitted a colourful video which contained an insight on how she and her friends travel to school and as both the South regional winner and the national overall winner, her class in Coláiste Choilm got to enjoy a day away from the classroom at the amusements in Tayto Park.

Stephen Kent, CEO of Bus Éireann said, “Bus Éireann is proud to be transporting pupils to and from school as part of the School Transport Scheme for over 50 years. Cliona’s submission was not only a creative tale of her journey to school, but it was also very humorous – from showing homework being completed on the morning commute with Bus Éireann on School Transport and concluded with an important message in a comical manner “Bus Éireann for a brighter tomorrow”.

Hollie Hannon from the Ursuline College in Sligo scooped the prize for the West with her essay reminiscing from her first journey to school. The winner for the East was Aoibhinn Egan from St Leo’s college in Carlow with her energetic school “documentary” video.

Bus Éireann is proud to have operated the School Transport Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills for over 50 years. Every day in Cork alone it transports over 15,000 pupils to and from school on 740 buses on 971 school routes under the scheme.

Bus Éireann would like to acknowledge the efforts of all Transition Year Students who took part in this year competition.
