Do I need student ID?

Young adults (19-23) and students may avail of student tickets at discounted rates where applicable. You’ll need to present your Young Adult/student ID to your driver when you're getting on your bus or coach. Tickets are only valid when accompanied by a young adult/student ID card with your photo on it

To access Leap discounted fares, you must have the appropriate Leap card. All young adults aged 19-23 years qualify for a Young Adult Leap card. Students aged 16-18 years and students aged 24 years and above in full-time third level education, including further education and training may apply for the Student Leap Card. Based on age and student status, persons aged 16-18 years old may qualify for both the Child 16-18 Leap card and the Student Leap Card. For travel on Expressway services, the recommended card is the Student Leap Card as it allows the holder to avail of the half-price Young Adult online discounted fares. For travel on Bus Éireann public services, the recommended card is the Child Leap Card (16-18) as it offers cheaper fares. It is possible to apply for both cards on leapcard.ie.

You’ll need to present your young adult/student ID/child to your driver when you're getting on your bus or coach. Tickets are only valid when accompanied by the appropriate ID card with your photo on it.

We accept the following forms of young adult/student ID:

  • TFI Young Adult Leap Card (19-23) 
  • TFI Student Leap Card
  • International ISIC card TransLink yLink Student Card 
  •  Student ID cards issued by a recognised third-level institution
