Galway City Service Improvements

Bus Éireann in conjunction with the National Transport Authority are pleased to announce the introduction of an enhanced bus service for our customers in Galway City on Sunday 16th September 2018. This enhanced network will see significant increases in service frequency on Route’s 401, 404 & 409 and increased Sunday/Public Holiday service frequency on Route’s 402, 405 & 407.

13 new Double Deck Buses will also be deployed to the Galway City Network during September & October 2018 which will deliver additional capacity on all routes.

The changes to the individual routes are as follows: 

Route 401: Salthill – Eyre Square – Parkmore

The current Route 401 & 403 will be combined to provide a cross city route linking Salthill to Castlepark via Eyre Square which will provide an enhanced service along the whole route as follows:• Monday - Friday service frequency will now increase to every 20 minutes all day starting from 06:00hrs approx.• Saturday service frequency will now increase to every 20 minutes all day starting from 06:00hrs approx.• Sunday/Public Holiday service frequency will now increase to every 20 minutes all day starting from 07:20hrs approx.

Route 402: Seacrest – Eyre Square – Merlin Park

 Additional early morning services will now operate on Sunday’s & Public Holidays from 08:00hrs.

Route 404: Oranmore – Eyre Square – Newcastle

  • Monday - Friday service frequency will now increase to every 30 minutes all day starting from 06:40hrs.
  • Saturday service frequency will now increase to every 30 minutes all day starting from 06:40hrs.
  • Sunday/Public Holiday service frequency will now increase to every 30 minutes all day 08:10hrs.

Route 405: Rahoon – Eyre Square – Ballybane

Additional early morning services will now operate on Sunday’s & Public Holidays from 08:00hrs.

Route 407: Eyre Square – Bóthar an Chóiste

Additional early morning services will now operate on Sunday’s & Public Holidays from 08:15hrs.

Route 409: Eyre Square – GMIT – Parkmore

  • Core weekday service frequency will now increase to every 10 minutes with a service every 15 minutes at other times.
  • Core Saturday service frequency will now increase to every 10 minutes with a service every 15/20 minutes at other times. 
  • Core Sunday/Public Holiday service frequency will now increase to every 15 minutes with a service every 15/30 minutes at other times. 
  • Services will now commence earlier at 07:00hrs on Sunday & Public Holidays.
